He started to appear on screen in the year 1975, particularly portraying a significant role on the television film The Tenth Level. In 1977, he earned the third place for the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor and also got the third place for the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor for his impressive performance on Saturday Night Fever.
He later on got the Henrietta Award – World Film Favorite Actor for his notable performance on Grease in 1978. These days, he is busy working for the upcoming films In a Valley of Violence and Criminal Activities.
John was married to actress Kelly Preston in the year 1991.
