Sofía Margarita Vergara was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on July 10, 1972. Her mother, Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara, is a housewife, and her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, produced cattle for the meat industry.
Vergara is a Colombian actress, television hostess, and model. She was famous in the late 1990s for featuring in two television shows for Spanish-language television network Univision. Her first remarkable job acting in English was 2003 in a Chasing Papi film. Afterwards, she featured in various films, including Four Brothers (2005), two Tyler Perry films, Meet the Browns (2008) and Madea Goes to Jail (2009), receiving an ALMA Award nomination for the latter.
At the age of 18 Vergara got married to Joe Gonzalez. They had their first child born in September 1992. They parted ways in 1993.
In 2000 Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Her thyroid was removed and she underwent iodine radiation therapy that enabled her to get well. She takes pills daily in order to manage the hypothyroidism symptoms.
On July 10, 2012, Vergara got into a relationship with Nick Loeb. She called off their relationship On May 23, 2014.
She has an adopted sister called Sandra who is also an actress; Sandra is biologically her cousin but was adopted by Sofia’s parents.
