Vanessa Lynn Williams is an American singer, actress, producer, and fashion model. She was born on March 18, 1963 in Millwood, New York to parents Milton Augustine Williams and Helen. Growing up with a love for music, she learned how to play piano and French horn when she was still a child.
She studied college at Syracuse University, majoring Musical Theatre Arts. While studying, she joined the beauty pageant Miss America 1983. She won the said pageant and was regarded as the first African-American woman to ever get the crown. In 1987, she appeared on big screen for the first time, playing a minor role for the film The Pick-up Artist. Since then, she constantly appeared both on films and TV programs. She also recorded songs which became a hit in the US and outside the US.
Vanessa was first married to Ramon Hervey II, a Public Relations consultant. They had two daughters namely Melanie and Jillian and a son named Devin. Their marriage lasted from 1987 to 1997.
After being separated from Ramon, Vanessa fell in love with the NBA player Rick Fox. They became husband and wife in September 1999 and were blessed with a daughter they named Sasha. When Rick was caught having an affair with another woman in 2004, Vanessa filed a divorce, which led to their permanent separation.
