Kathryn Bigelow was born on November 27, 1951 in San Carlos, California, United States. Originally Kathryn Ann Bigelow, she is an American director, producer, and writer. It was in the year 1978 when she started her directing work, particularly working for the short film The Set-Up. In the year 1987, she started to earn prominence when she directed and wrote the film Near Dark by which she won the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film – Silver Raven and a nomination for Saturn Award for Best Direction.
In the year 2009, she became known for gaining numerous awards for her impressive directing work on the film The Hurt Locker. These awards include Academy Award for Best Director, British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award for Best Film, British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award for Best Direction, Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures, and many more.
