The son of Anthony McClelland and Gloria Marie James, he was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio, United States. Standing at 6 ft 8 in and weighing 250 lb, he has started playing at the small forward and power forward positions. He studied high school at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School. It was in the year 2003 when he finally made it to the NBA, particularly being selected with the first overall pick in the NBA draft.
